The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 on Monday night to take a 3-0 lead in the World Series. The victory in St. Petersburg capped a dominant performance where the Brewers scored 10 runs on 16 hits, while the Rays managed only one run on three hits.
Jackson Chourio was the offensive centerpiece for Milwaukee. The 22-year-old went 4-for-4 in the first five innings. He led off the game with a line drive single and followed it with singles in his next two at-bats. His fourth hit, a double in the fifth inning, contributed to an eight-run outburst that decided the game.
Chourio also drove in one run and scored two times. He stole a base during the game, bringing his World Series steal total to three. His batting average in the series stands at .571 with eight hits in 14 at-bats. The performance made him the youngest player with a four-hit World Series game since Joe Garagiola in 1946.
"Yeah, I think that you could say this is one of my better games," Chourio said. "Really, I was just taking every at-bat like it could be my last and trying to find any way I could to get on base. Because I know, as long as I get on base, there's guys behind me who could score."
Brewers manager Pat Murphy noted that the team is not surprised by the young star's production. "He's turning into a fine player. He's understanding what it takes, the discipline that it takes," Murphy said. "He's coming into his own. Nobody's shocked. He's just really, really good." Murphy compared Chourio's work ethic to that of Kobe Bryant.
The Brewers have won seven straight postseason games, combining their sweep of the National League Championship Series with their start to the World Series. A win in Game 4 would give them eight consecutive wins, a milestone not previously achieved by any MLB team. The Rays have been scoreless in eight innings across the last two games, having scored only four runs in the first inning of Game 2.
Chourio is under contract with Milwaukee through the 2031 season, with two additional club options extending his deal through 2033. He posted 4.9 wins above replacement in 127 regular season games this year. The Brewers will host Game 4 to attempt to extend their winning streak and secure the championship.
