The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-21 on Monday night, ending a two-game losing streak and improving their record to 3-4. The road victory keeps the team within striking distance of the division leaders.
Dak Prescott led the offense with three touchdown passes. Two of those scores went to CeeDee Lamb, while George Pickens caught the third. This marks the sixth time in Prescott's career he has thrown at least three touchdown passes against Philadelphia. He noted that a loss would have forced the team to watch other results more closely, calling the result a huge road win given the Eagles' offensive injuries.
The ground game provided the decisive edge. Javonte Williams ran for a career-high 155 yards on 25 carries. He sealed the victory with a 2-yard touchdown run with 2:21 remaining. The Cowboys became the first team since 1983 to top 200 yards in both rushing and passing against the Eagles.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer faced questions about his recent public comments, including describing himself as an elite playcaller on a local radio show. He appeared restrained in the postgame press conference. When asked if he was all right, he replied that he was great and excited for the players. Prescott said he saw a hungry and angry version of his coach, confirming the team supports him despite the external noise.
The defense allowed a touchdown in the first quarter of each half, but it generated key stops. DeMarvion Overshown intercepted a pass from Tanner McKee. Quinnen Williams and Donovan Ezeiruaku each recorded a sack. Williams admitted the team did not play a perfect game but emphasized the importance of securing the win.
The Cowboys have not won consecutive games since a three-game streak in Weeks 11 through 13 of last season. Their last win before Monday was against the Houston Texans on October 4. They return home to host the 2-5 Arizona Cardinals at AT&T Stadium next.
ESPN Analytics now assigns the Cowboys a 57% probability of winning the NFC East. Schottenheimer stated the win puts the team back in the hunt, while Prescott warned that the team must earn every result each week.
