The Milwaukee Brewers won their first World Series title on Wednesday by defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5. The victory concluded a best-of-seven series in St. Petersburg, Florida, and capped a season in which the Brewers finished with a 96-45 regular season record and an 11-2 playoff record.
Milwaukee had struggled early in the 2026 season, including a six-game losing streak in April. After falling to an 18-16 record on May 4, the team won 85 games and lost 43 over the remainder of the regular season. They maintained that momentum in the postseason, winning six games after falling behind at some point.
Starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski dominated the Rays' offense in the decisive game. The team is expected to name him the National League Cy Young Award winner. He was supported by a bullpen that included Aaron Ashby, Abner Uribe, Trevor Megill, DL Hall, and JoJo Romero.
The roster featured several star players. Christian Yelich, a former MVP, contributed significantly in the postseason despite age. Jackson Chourio emerged as a major offensive threat, while William Contreras and Brice Turang provided elite defense and hitting. Turang is widely considered the best second baseman in baseball.
Key contributions came from players who filled specific roles during the postseason. Cooper Pratt hit four hits in Game 4, including a tying double and a walk-off home run in the 12th inning. He drove in two runs in Game 5. David Hamilton, acquired from the Boston Red Sox, hit a tying home run in Game 4 and a key single in Game 5.
Robert Gasser, who began the season in the minor leagues, threw six scoreless innings in Game 3. Sal Frelick, who hit only four home runs in the regular season, hit a tying home run in Game 2. Garrett Mitchell hit a go-ahead home run in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series against the Dodgers.
Jake Bauers, who had considered retiring, won the National League Championship Series Most Valuable Player award. The Brewers managed injuries to Yelich, Chourio, and Brandon Woodruff by activating players like Shane Drohan and Logan Henderson. The team had a 26-5 record after September 6, including playoff games.
The Brewers scored eight runs with two outs in the World Series, including a rally in Game 3. They won the series without relying solely on home runs, using singles, doubles, and sacrifice flies to advance runners. The team finished its 103-win season with a championship.
