President Donald Trump heads to Daytona Beach, Florida, on Friday to campaign for his party ahead of the midterm elections. The stop marks the final phase of his national touring schedule.
Trump plans to rally support for Rep. Byron Donalds, the Republican candidate for governor. Donalds faces Democrat David Jolly, a former Republican congressman who switched parties. Polls show the race is competitive, though Donalds currently holds a lead.
The contest differs sharply from the 2022 election, when incumbent Ron DeSantis won reelection by a margin of nearly 20 points. The current field lacks that established dominance.
The President is also expected to support congressional candidates in the state. That group includes Sen. Ashley Moody, who seeks to retain her seat in a special election. Her opponent is state Rep. Angie Nixon.
DeSantis appointed Moody to the Senate in 2025 following Marco Rubio’s appointment as Secretary of State. Trump will also campaign for Rep. Randy Fine, who represents a district based in Daytona Beach. Fine took office in April 2025 after winning a special election to replace Mike Waltz.
Waltz now serves as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Florida voluntarily redrew its congressional maps before this election cycle. Republicans currently hold 20 of the state’s 28 House seats, and the new lines may increase that number.
