Dimona Mayor Benny Biton announced on Sunday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seeks to form a national unity government. Biton, a close associate of Netanyahu, said he spoke with President Isaac Herzog on Saturday to discuss the terms of the potential alliance.

Biton stated that both Herzog and US President Donald Trump would act as guarantors for Gadi Eisenkot, the head of the Yashar party. He argued these leaders could assure the opposition that a unity cabinet would remain stable.

"I trust that the president of the State of Israel will guarantee this. But if you do not trust the president of the State of Israel, I also trust the president of the United States, the president of the world's greatest superpower," Biton said.

The Likud party informed opposition members that removing Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana with Arab party support would kill the chance for a unity government. Biton called such a move a declaration of war if done unilaterally.

"There is no problem with agreeing on a Knesset speaker if it is done through mutual agreement among everyone. If they intend to make unilateral parliamentary moves, that is a red line," he said.

Biton warned that without a unity deal, Israel faces another election where neither bloc can form a government. He claimed an opposition-led cabinet without Likud would survive no more than six months.
