The family of Dominique Greene returned to the scene of her death Friday night, standing in the shadows of West Sunrise Boulevard with stacks of flyers. They joined police and first responders in a quiet appeal to the public. Their goal is to identify the driver who struck and killed Greene on Oct. 21 and left her at the roadside.

Greene, a young mother, was walking across the westbound lanes when the collision occurred. The Fort Lauderdale Police Department says the incident happened at 8:04 p.m. that Wednesday. A newer model black Mercedes-Benz AMG Performance coupe was involved. Investigators estimate the vehicle was manufactured between 2021 and 2023.

The driver did not stop. Police report the vehicle fled the scene immediately after the impact. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue transported Greene to Broward Health Medical Center, where she died from her injuries. The family returned to the intersection around 8:30 p.m. on Friday to seek answers.

Sekennia Greene, Dominique's mother, spoke to the crowd about the immediate loss. "Unfortunately, I can't tell my baby I love her anymore. I can't tell her Merry Christmas, happy birthday," she said. She noted that her grandbaby is now left without his mother and asked how they will explain the death to him.

Investigators have not yet identified the driver. Surveillance footage captured a blurry image of the car. Police believe the vehicle has specific damage, including a hit front grille and right headlight. They also suspect damage to the passenger-side windshield and the A-pillar, the structural section connecting the windshield to the roof.

Family members are calling for more safety measures in the area. They point out that children cross the road to attend school, yet there are no surveillance cameras at the intersection. One family member stated, "With this highway and this intersection, even with kids crossing, crossing for school … there should have been cameras."

Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Bill Schultz said the investigation needs tips. "Someone knows where this car is. Someone knows who the driver is. We need them to come forward," he said. Anyone with information can contact Traffic Homicide Investigator Jill Hirsch at 954-828-5753 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
