A 20-year-old male is in critical condition after being struck by multiple bullets in a drive-by shooting in Bridgeport. Bridgeport police officers arrived at the intersection of Reservoir Avenue and Alba Avenue around 1 p.m. on Wednesday to investigate reports of gunfire.
Detective Jeffrey Holtz stated that officers located the victim on the ground with several gunshot wounds. Law enforcement officials believe the man was the specific target of the attack. Investigators are connecting the incident to a vehicle that was carjacked within the city earlier on Wednesday.
Holtz confirmed that a description of the suspect vehicle has been issued as a Be On the Lookout alert to Bridgeport units and detectives in surrounding towns. The victim was rushed to St. Vincent's Medical Center for emergency surgery and remains in critical condition.
This incident marks the second reported shooting on the busy Reservoir Avenue corridor within the past week. Holtz said the department is intensifying its focus on the area and is appealing to the public for assistance in locating suspects.
"We're hoping for arrests, that's our ultimate goal," Holtz said. "So that the people that were injured in these shootings, and their families receive justice.. and that these dangerous persons are taken off the street."
