Entergy Mississippi plans to invest more than $2 billion in a new natural gas power plant in Raymond, according to company leaders who spoke to residents Thursday. The project is expected to be the largest economic development effort in the history of Hinds County.

Jeremy Vanderloo, the company's vice president of business operations and strategy, identified the facility as a Mitsubishi design. He described the plant as clean, safe, and highly efficient, stating that it will serve existing customers and provide reliable power to the community.

The project carries a long-term financial commitment for the local government. Vanderloo projected the plant will generate more than $1 billion in property taxes over its operational life. These funds will support the City of Raymond, Hinds County, and the Hinds County School District.

The plant is designed to operate for approximately 30 years. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2028 and will take roughly five years to complete. The facility will become operational in the summer of 2031.

Company officials presented these details at an open house for area residents. The announcement confirms the timeline and scale of the investment without detailing the specific location of the site within Raymond.
