The Seattle Mariners exercised a $9 million club option for right-hander Andrés Muñoz on Thursday. This move keeps the 27-year-old reliever under contract and prevents him from entering free agency.
Seattle also declined a $9 million option for outfielder Victor Robles. The 29-year-old Dominican will receive a $500,000 buyout. This transaction completes a two-year, $9.75 million deal for Robles, who is now eligible for free agency.
The club also passed on a $6,075,000 option for right-hander Bryce Miller. Miller will receive a $15,000 buyout as part of a one-year contract that guaranteed $2,452,500. He remains under club control and is eligible for salary arbitration.
Four additional Mariners became free agents on Thursday: outfielders Randy Arozarena and Taylor Ward, shortstop J.P. Crawford, and left-hander Hoby Milner.
Muñoz signed a four-year, $7.5 million contract in December 2021 that included three club options. He earned $7 million this season under the first option. The 2024 and 2025 All-Star finished with a 5-6 record and a 4.24 earned average, the worst of his career. He recorded 28 saves in 38 chances and struck out 89 batters in 57 1/3 innings.
Seattle holds a $10 million option for 2028. That figure increases by $250,000 for each 20-game finished threshold he reaches up to 45 games.
Robles hit .256 with no home runs, nine runs batted in, and 10 stolen bases in 65 games. He missed time from April 6 to May 22 with a right pectoral strain. He played only 32 games in 2025 due to a left shoulder dislocation.
Miller posted a 4-10 record with a 4.17 earned average in 21 starts and one relief appearance. A left oblique strain delayed his season debut with Seattle until May 13.
