Iara Dossantos Bomfim, 29, is booked on 10 felony counts of child abuse in Orange County. Prosecutors say video evidence shows the nanny repeatedly striking and shaking an infant while working for a local family.

The alleged abuse began on June 17, 2026, when the child was two months and 10 days old. Footage from the family's nanny cam captured the events over the following weeks until the baby reached just over three months of age.

On July 11, 2026, the baby's mother heard her son scream and checked the nursery. Bomfim told the mother everything was fine, but the mother later reviewed the digital recordings. The video shows Bomfim sitting on a yoga ball while bouncing the infant. The baby's head and neck move back and forth and side to side in the clip.

In a separate segment, the footage captures Bomfim punching the baby in the back of the head with a closed fist. The Orange County District Attorney's Office described the actions as violent punching, hitting, and shaking.

Bomfim fled to Brazil in July after the discovery. She returned to the United States and was arrested on Friday. Prosecutors said she was attempting to create a new profile on Care.com to offer her services at the time of her arrest.

Bomfim has pleaded not guilty. She is currently held on $500,000 bail. If convicted on all 10 counts, she faces a maximum sentence of 18 years in state prison.
