Roads in Atlanta's Midtown district will close to through traffic on Friday and Saturday to host the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting. The Atlanta Department of Transportation released maps showing full closures of Juniper Street NE between 11th Street NE and 13th Street NE. 11th Street NE will also close completely between Peachtree Street NE and Juniper Street NE.
The gathering serves as the primary foreign affairs summit leading into the G20 Leaders' Summit scheduled for December in Miami. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is hosting the event. Senior delegations from member nations will attend, including Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The agenda includes international security, freedom of navigation, supply chain resilience, and global food and energy concerns.
The city hosts the meeting after a series of high-profile political visits in recent weeks. Vice President JD Vance, former President Barack Obama, and former Vice President Kamala Harris all traveled to Atlanta ahead of the midterm elections next week. The G20 arrival marks the latest major diplomatic presence in the city.
Traffic restrictions extend beyond the fully closed streets. Intersections at Juniper Street NE with 11th, 12th, and 13th Streets NE will close. Peachtree Street NE at 11th and 12th Streets NE will also close. On 11th Street NE and 12th Street NE, sections between Juniper Street NE and Piedmont Avenue NE will open only to local residents and business access.
Commuters face motorcades and rolling roadblocks during the high-security event. The department advises drivers to avoid the area near the Loews Atlanta Hotel corridor. Expect rolling delays on surrounding arterial roads. Alternate east-west routes such as 10th Street NE or 14th Street NE are recommended for travel through Midtown.
