Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries in a 27-6 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. The performance tied Warren's career high for rushing yards in a single game. It marked the second consecutive week he surpassed the 100-yard mark and his fourth such game in the 2026 season.

The win gave the Steelers an outright lead in the AFC North division. Warren, who turned 28 on Sunday, has emerged as a central figure in Pittsburgh's offense. Head coach Mike McCarthy described the running back's current form as being "on fire." McCarthy added that the offense cannot get the ball to Warren enough.

The offensive line provided substantial support for Warren's production. The unit allowed the Steelers to gain 200 yards and score three touchdowns on 33 total rushing attempts against Cleveland's defensive front. Guard Mason McCormick delivered a notable body tackle on Browns pass rusher Jared Verse in the first half. The play appeared to energize the line, with McCormick and center Zach Frazier sprinting across the field at the end of the first quarter.

Defensive performance has also contributed to the offense's rhythm. The Steelers' defense has not allowed a touchdown in the last seven quarters. This statistical trend has given the offense more time to sustain drives. Linebacker T.J. Watt, who recorded two of Pittsburgh's eight sacks on Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, described Warren as a "bowling ball with teeth." Watt noted that Warren maintains an intense work ethic, often practicing in a T-shirt and shorts during cold December sessions.

Veteran defensive tackle Cam Heyward offered a high assessment of Warren's skill level. Heyward, the team's longest-tenured player, stated that Warren is not short of the great running backs he has previously played alongside. He highlighted the effectiveness of the "1-2 punch" created by Warren and fellow back Rico Dowdle. Sustained drives by the backs allow the defense to rest on the sideline.

A key moment in the game involved a 51-yard run by Warren on a third-and-13 play. The gain helped establish the Steelers' first double-digit lead of the day. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is now with the Steelers, called the execution of a trap scheme on a long third down "pretty wild." Rodgers said he did not expect the play to succeed and could not recall the last time such a call resulted in a first down.

Warren's physical condition has improved through increased time spent at the team's recovery facility. This routine followed a 2024 season that Warren described as somewhat disappointing. The additional treatment has contributed to his current performance metrics. Warren recorded a career-high 958 rushing yards in 2025. He is currently on pace to post the most prolific rushing season for a Steelers back since Le'Veon Bell.

Warren acknowledged the benefits of his recovery regimen when asked about the extra time at the recovery table. He said, "It's definitely paying off." The running back's team-first attitude has made him a favorite in the locker room. Teammates expressed support for his continued success, with Rodgers noting that Warren is a "fantastic teammate" who is making a lot of plays.

Warren entered the league as an undrafted rookie. His current breakout season is driven by his physical development and his role in the offense. His primary objective is to help the Steelers achieve their Super Bowl goals. The combination of line play, defensive support, and his own performance has solidified his status in Pittsburgh.
